Magika. What humans called it.
Mahou. The demon's preferred pronunciation.
They used it to fight each other centuries ago, but what the humans didn't know was their weapon of choice against their demon enemies was exactly what was connecting them together.
There is a total of six main types of Magika: Shape Shift, Teleport, See, Illusion, Summon, and Heal.
They are generally categorized under three main branches: Active Magika, Implant Magika, and Defense Magika.
Each Magika type has three levels, each more potent than the last. Both humans and demons are born into their levels of Mahou. They are unable to advance into any tiers higher than the one they currently have. Those born into the highest rank have the benefit of possessing access to the lower ones.
Magika has its own general limitations, but if the wielder is potent and disciplined enough, he can harness the Mahou in a new way to create unique spells or techniques. How effective a Magika attack is on a demon or human is depends on the victims own relationship with Magika. People of lower levels succumb to higher tier Mahou and beings with no Magika have little to no defense against it.
Sometimes genetics gets in the way of the passing down of Mahou and mutations occur that can't be categorized under the usual branches. These mutations seem to only occur within humans.
